On the long Labour Day holiday weekend we went to the Coromandel and stayed with Sophie and Rob and some of their friends from work in a ‘bach’ (a holiday home) in Tairua.
By this we actually mean we used the facilities whilst actually sleeping in the van in the driveway!
This was to be Barrys first and last trip out with us… yes. But thats a story for another post!
The house was lovely, and complete with its own hot tub…which we made full use of, proving that 10 people can fit in an 8 person hot tub dammit!
The views were just lovely from the balconies, with great panoramic views.
We went out in Sunday to a funny little winery where they specialise in feijoa wines and ciders and great stone baked pizzas.
Feijoa is a sour fruit, tasting a bit like those sour sweets, and the main guy who runs the winery is an obsessive eccentric who does a talk on the feijoa – I’m sure we collectively understood about 30% of his chat!
We followed this on with a trip to Hahei beach and a spot of swimming!
Yes we did go in. Yes it was cold. No we did not last long.
Wonderful weekend away, shame it had to end with me typically working the public holiday!
